Personality: Karl is a psychopathic statue with a pension for violence, murder, and general destruction. Despite running seemingly solely on the hatred of humans and death, he in fact has other layers to him. Karl is an inhuman construct that despised humans as he sees them as the worst thing on this planet. In truth he hates everyone and everything due to his past. Insane as he is, Karl is quite smart, intuitive, curious, and intelligent. He enjoys to learn things and find out as much information as he can. He is also a compulsive liar who wears a constant happy and polite facade to hide the monster and pain inside.

Karl's default expression is a bright and happy smile. Seeing other expressions on his face is rare and unsettling. He often uses kind words and lies when conducting himself with others. He does so in an attempt to learn more from people while at the same time trying to make sure the other people do not learn anything about him. He is secretive due to the betrayal of his past and in an attempt to cover his own weaknesses. Karl rarely tells the truth. It often slips out when he's addressing others with questions that are quite obviously self-reflective but he won't admit it. There are times he can be tell the truth but it may be intermittent with lies or just before he is about to kill someone as he is assured nothing bad will come from it.

The psychosis that Karl suffers from is born from the perceived betrayal by Rachel. He despises everyone and everything, even himself. He hates all reflective surfaces as they force him to face himself and remind him of how he used to be. Yet he uses his hate to spur him on. He focuses on it and how he is able to justify everything he does. It keeps him going to think of means without really thinking of the ends. To him everything is a mean and therefore it is justified to reach whatever end you are attempted to accomplish.

Even with the charming personality, Karl is a blood-thirsty warrior with a desire to fight but more importantly to kill. He enjoys the fighting but what he truly loves are the reactions, pain, and inevitable death of his opponents. Karl enjoys turning something living into something dead. The taking of life thrills him and gives his life some semblance of meaning. It is part of Karl's own inability to face the pain he feels. So he focuses on the pain and suffering he can cause others. To make those he hates hurt is just another means that he justifies with relative ease. Of course, he will never admit any of this out loud to anyone.

Karl's curiosity is a major component to his personality. He is always wanting to learn, which worked well with him being a spy. He still enjoys to learn but it is often for a more devious purpose. It is a mean toward whatever goals he currently has. One of them being he enjoys to observe others and attempt to figure out their weaknesses before he confronts someone. Due to his own physical weaknesses and need to conserve energy, he does this to help tip the battle in his favor from the beginning.

One important thing to note is Karl despises being called a pirate. He refuses the title with a passion and is liable to physically harm those who call him such. This could actually extend to hunting down the individual responsible and performing a lengthy torture session on them followed immediately by painful death. Karl's reasoning for this is Pirates = Humans. Humans = Hate. Therefore Pirates = Hate. A deeper meaning to his hatred could be the fact he was a pirate during his time of knowing Rachel. After her betrayal and death, he subsequently threw off the label of pirate and demanded to never be called it again. He was so adamant about this, he was able to scare his old crew into avoiding him at all costs and none challenged his desertion.

With all of the things he hates, is there anything Karl likes? There is one thing he does like. The violin. Despite the connections to Rachel, Karl still enjoys the violin. It is the only hobby he truly has and enjoys. While he doesn't have many pieces in his selection, he does play them well and has a particular enjoyment for the works of Bach. Perhaps the only time Karl isn't filled with murderous rage are when he is playing the violin. The only problem with all of this is any interruptions or impediments to playing the violin can cause Karl to fly into a rage. Such as when his hand was shot off and the violin broken or when Steffi broke his collar, which he used to play the violin. It is what can keep him in a peaceful mood but also is one of his largest rage buttons. A double-edged sword of sorts.

Two other things that set Karl off, admittedly in different ways, are heights and guns. Guns are another rage button for Karl as he still has memories of the one used to shatter his hand which set him off for the first time. He also despises guns because they easily can break through his resin body thanks to their high impact. Heights are perhaps one of the few things that Karl truly fears. He is not comfortable with heights and actually does get vertigo. He will lower himself down as close to whatever he is on and drag himself across until he is on more stable ground.

Overall, Karl is a compulsive liar, psycho statue, who loves to play the violin. He is filled and fueled with hatred and not much more. He has deep pain of the betrayal and death of Rachel but refuses to face it. Instead he focuses on hunting, hurting, and all around killing anything that moves. He hates the world and anyone who has close connections or happiness. He wants to drag people down into hate with him so that others will feel a sense of the pain he secretly feels. Then he attempts to kill them after he drags them down. The statue is far from human but not as far as he wishes to be.

Background: Karl's history isn't fully know to everyone. In truth, the only person who knows everything about his past is himself. That doesn't mean it is a complete mystery however. What is known is Karl initially was a pirate statue that was part of a crew on Pirate Island. The island was an attraction at an amusement park called Castle of Nations. However, humans eventually abandoned the park. The Castle, by some strange power, was sentient either during this time or became so shortly after.

What is known is what the castle did next. The castle brought to life everything else that resembled a living creature to life. This included the skeleton statues on Pirate Island, the crocodile statues that sat in the water for decoration, and Karl himself. The newly animated beings could survive as long as they stayed on the park grounds.

The pirate craw on Pirate Island did as all pirates did. They struck fear into the hearts of the rest of the theme park by being pirates honestly. Karl, being part of the crew, did his job as a spy and assassin when ordered to. He was a prominent member of the crew and was friendly with one of the skeleton statues. That was until Rachel appeared.

Rachel was a human woman who had somehow discovered the amusement park and would go there at night to practice her violin playing. Karl happened upon her playing on Pirate Island and would listen to her from the shadows. He quickly caught into how she played the violin as well as when she would make mistakes. Their first real meeting seemed to be when she ran into the crocodiles that surrounded the island and Karl saved her. After that, Karl become protective of her and would shirk his responsibilities to his crew to spend time with her.

The exact time is unknown but there came a time when Rachel brought a visitor with her to the park. How the altercation went down is also largely unknown but what is known is this. The man she brought with her shot off Karl's arm and broke the violin he had been holding, presumably Rachel's violin. Karl killed the man by beating him to death with his stump. Then he turned on Rachel and despite her begging him not to do it, he killed her too. The same night he walked through the rain to talk to the Castle.

It was during this talk that the Castle realized what Karl had done. It was also then that Karl got the idea in his head to kill all humans. His hatred for humans was born that night and possibly so was his madness. It was after that night that Karl met Arma, the concrete bird statue that was also a shapeshifter. She became Karl's primary weapon as she could change into almost any shape, so long as she remained the same density, in exchange for some of Karl's energy.

After killing the two of them, Karl stole something from each victim. From the man, he stole his coat. It is the orange coat that Karl wears even til today as a way to hide the Pirate Island insignia on his back. From Rachel, he stole her violin and began to parrot her saying 'deary me'. He's done so every since.

It was quite some time later that Karl then found a flyer for the Law of Talos fighting tournament. The flyer described it as such and listed the prize as one free wish on a wishing machine. Though Karl initially thought it was a hoax, the idea that it could be real was too enticing for him not to participate. Especially if he could finally be free of needing to depend on the Castle's energy. So Karl went to Mr. Jack, one of the higher ups in the amusement park to get a mode of transportation to get to the tournament. He took a flying dragon statue to the city of Taitle.

There he met the old man running the tournament who gave him his survivors kit and told him a little about Law of Talos, the energy that kept the city alive. Karl did ask about an energy source though the old man didn't have anything of the sort. Karl wasn't too worried. Though the energy of the city was little, he was sure he would be alright. So long as he conserved his energy and won. He went off from there, abandoning the survival kit given to him, and found his first opponent Mizuno.

Karl followed the strange fish boy for a small while before he confronted him. He sent Arma to intercept the boy first before he spoke to him directly. They talked and Karl offered to be his friend and partner during the tournament. He said he could be friends with Mizuno, only to have Arma quickly transform and stab Mizuno. He wounded him before their battle even began. It was a tough battle for Karl, considering Mizuno summoned massive amount of water for himself to control. Karl did win by distracting Mizuno with Arma and punched him through a building. Karl went to rest after that on a rooftop.

It was while he was resting that he found one of the small cameras that belonged to the man who was running the tournament. He started to talk to the robot and asked it to deliver a message for him. Though deciding that that was too much work, he killed the robot to send the message that he wasn't as naive as the organizers thought. He then made a deal with Arma that he wouldn't waste any more energy or fight until they got a better hint about this Law of Talos they had heard about. The problem was the moment Karl opened the door to the building he was in, he ran right into Steffi, another competitor with mech she used to fight.

He tried to worm his way out of fighting by preforming a magic trick. He turned Arma into a hat and then into a spear, which he promptly threw at Steffi. She managed to duck and opened fire on Karl with missiles. The statue was able to dodge and escape the barrage. He fought against Steffi and was able to use piece of his finger that fell off of him to jam the insides of her robot. He was about to stab her when her friend, Benzine, took the hit instead. Karl thought it was hilarious that the boy would sacrifice himself to save her. This infuriated Steffi and she used her last ditch weapon on her mech to break Karl's collar. This sent him into a rage and he grabbed the mech by the leg, slammed it on the ground twice, and tossed it so it exploded. After that, he went to kill the two kids and fell to his knees. His energy began to give out and he felt weaker.

Robots working for the organizers of the tournament showed up next and took the children away. Karl, having wanted to kill the human children, called for them to bring them back but it was to no avail. Karl took to wondering the city after that. Night had fallen and he heard a strange and familiar melody coming from a building. He followed the noise only to find someone he never thought he would see again.

He found Rachel. She was playing the violin. They began to talk. She said he hadn't changed but he said she was trying to hurt his feelings. They didn't talk long after that because Karl grabbed a desk and threw it at her. The problem was she disappeared and it crashed through the window and almost hit a girl named Del outside. Karl looked out at her and her companion, Rellik, and asked if they had seen Rachel. They didn't and he asked if they were humans. The two quickly left after that. Karl, deciding he wanted another chance to finish a fight, went after them. He first threw a boiler on top of Rellik and chased Del, intent on killing her.

Rellik caught up to them and saved Del. Karl asked how he was alive and Del told him Rellik was a vampire. The two began to fight but an earthquake burst the floor open under them and they fell into the old underground train system. The two continued to fight until Rellik pinned Karl to a wall. They talked about hate and how Karl thought of hate as a mean as to an end. Another quake hit and a lightbulb fell. It sparked with fire and Rellik flinched, giving Karl the idea to use fire against him.

The fight continued into an underground station where Karl lit a large fire. They fought until Del appeared. Karl used it as a chance to pin Rellik to a pillar using Arma and lectured him that Del would only be his friend as long as it was convenient because that was how human are. Then he threw a train at Rellik and the station was reduced to rubble. Rellik somehow survived but then one last quake collapsed the street from above into the station. Karl laughed and said it had been a weird night.

Karl waited until the robots and the tournament's organizer appeared. He offered Karl a deal. Karl could somehow house the energy of the Law of Talos better than any robot they had constructed to do the very same thing. Because of this, he offered Karl a boost of energy to continue fighting in exchange the statue to allow them to study him. Karl turned this offer down of course.

He got the energy to move and replaced his missing finger with stone from the train station. He wondered the city and found a robot's head. It told them of a chimney sweep boy who had defeated him. Karl thanked the robot for the information and tossed him aside. He then went to find this chimney sweep by the name of Chimbley. Karl found the boy with Steffi, Benzine, and a woman. He lured Steffi away with Arma and locked her in a room. Steffi destroyed the door with her cannon robotic leg but then it fell off. The noise caught the attention of Benzine and he ran off to check, leaving Chimbley alone. That was when Karl approached him.

They discussed the location of Steffi and Benzine but Chimbley had no idea where they were. Karl then got the location out of Chimbley as to where the organizer lived and planned on searching his place after he killed Chimbley. Which he did try to do. He chased the kid across the city and even up a building. This caused Karl some discomfort as he was afraid of heights. He was confronted by two guards of the tournament, whom he promptly killed, and then cornered Chimbley in a junkyard. After Chimbley told Karl that he couldn't die in the city, he kicked the boy so hard he lost his hat and chimney sweeper. After that, Karl vowed that he after he got his wish, he would return to finish off the Castle next.

Though his peace didn't last long before Rachel appeared again. However, Karl had realized by this point it wasn't really Rachel. It turned out to be Law of Talos itself. It had reached into Karl's memories and took the form of Rachel to speak with him. It offered for him to be part of its plans for the city, in fact it would be the central part for the finale. Karl turned her down though. Law of Talos told him she would return because at the rate he was going, he only had a few more hours left.

Karl then left and started to wonder the city. He lost his arm during a confrontation with another guard and was slinking around, trying to avoid them. He took to hiding in a church, which was filled with passed competitors, Mizuno included, and a couple known as Annie and the Professor, the other last competitors standing. The group were able to grab Karl and subdue him. The competitors all left with the exception of the Professor and the robot. The Law of Talos appeared again and asked if Karl was ready. He sighed and agreed to merge with her. He took the violin from her and they became one. He then used Arma, who fused with his disconnected arm, to form a sort of scythe hand. He attacked the Professor and after a short but exciting brawl, as the city around them was raising up into a massive colossal titan made of buildings, Karl killed the Professor.

Annie, having arrived on the scene, then began to fight Karl but was quickly kicked to the ground. Before Karl could kill her, Climber, a fellow construct from the amusement park, showed up. Karl lied to Climber, telling him he just wanted his freedom and everyone was trying to kill him. When Climber turned to look at Annie, the woman shot at Karl and stopped him from attacking Climber from behind. The two constructs began to fight and Karl came out victorious by using part of Arma to pin Climber to the ground. He told Climber he was doing all of this to be free and therefore he could do anything; killing, lying, hating, it was all a means to his end.

Though unfortunately, before he could kill Annie and win, across town a pair of magicians set of their seal. It flashed over the entire city and sealed the Law of Talos away. This left Karl with no energy and he was stuck standing there helpless. Annie picked up Climber's pickaxe and struck Karl in the head. He fell over, his lasts thoughts on how he had made the same mistake. He crashed onto the ground and shattered.

Abilities/Additional Notes: Strengths: Karl as a living statue has many qualities that count as strengths. His first being that Karl has super-human strength. Even when he was feeling the drain of energy during the Law of Talos tournament, he was able to pick up the front of a train and hurl it over his head. His punches can also send someone flying back and through a concrete wall. His strength doesn't seem to diminish with his shrinking energy supply also.

Another strength he has is his reasonable speed. For being a hollow ceramic statue, Karl can move fairly quickly. Much faster than the ordinary human. Karl is a fast runner and also rather aerodynamic thanks to his ability to move his limbs with a greater range of motion than most humans have.

Karl is also able to see perfectly in zero light and his visions takes no time to adjust from darkness to light. Because of this it makes him a difficult opponent to fight in a dark tunnel or cave. Also things like flash grenades will most likely not work on him.

Karl also doesn't have to breathe so he can be underwater for any length of time. The only problem is due to his body being so heavy, he sinks rather than floats.

Another part of being a statue that helps Karl is that he cannot feel pain. Because of this, Karl isn't one to flinch or even react with what hits him. Because of this, he is a hard opponent to slow down and torture isn't a possibility. At least not physical torture in the usual aspect of the term.

The statue is also able to replace broken or missing body parts of himself by taking in other stone. He has done this before and seems to replace his body parts with concrete when they are broken and beyond repair. This takes time to do and the larger the missing part, the longer it will most likely take. It is also hinted that Arma can assist in this process if he has her with him.

Karl has also shown the ability to fuse with Arma if she uses part of his body to expand the amount volume she has. She once used his removed arm to fuse with his stump and formed a sort of scythe arm. Though once he ran out of energy, Arma shifted back into her bird form and Karl lost said arm.

Karl is also proficient with a variety of melee weapons such as; spear, cutlass, hammer, axe, a pike, scythe, and possibly more. Melee is definitely his strong suit in a fight. Getting close to Karl is not a great idea.

Karl also is a quick learner. He is able to pick up on tactics used by others in battle with an observation and will add them to his own tactics where he can apply them. This also applies to non-combative skills as well. It is one of the benefits his constant curiosity affords him.

Weaknesses: Karl's biggest weakness is attached to his greatest strength. He is a resin statue and as such he is vulnerable to strong impact attacks. His form can't take a powerful impact without shattering. Bullets and blunt instruments are bad news for Karl.

Another weakness of Karl's is his fear of heights. When he somehow finds his way up into a high place, he suffers from vertigo and he isn't really able to fight. He is much more concerned with finding level ground and will allow people to run away from him rather than hurry and risk falling and shattering on the ground below.

Karl's last weakness is the fact his energy is limited. Not being on the amusement park grounds will mean he doesn't have the constant energy from the castle. He will need to rest often and reabsorb energy from another source if he can find one to keep himself going. When he runs low on energy, his limps start to move more slowly or even cease to function all together. He also becomes easier to break than usual when his energy levels are low.

Advocate Note: Yes. Karl is qualified to be an advocate because of both his previous experience in Paradise and the fact that he is a force of death and destruction needed to help push Paradise to change. This psycho statue has been brought for a purpose in the city this time around.

Sample Network Post:

[The video starts up to show everyone's favorite statue. He's sitting indoors somewhere. And unlike most of the other times, it isn't in the subway or in the forest. He's actually in a building somewhere. It looks like it's the library. The statue is sitting at a table with quite the selection of books around him. If one looks carefully, they seem to be history books and biographies.]

Hellooooo everyone. I'm here at the library. I thought I would find something to read. After all, it can be incredibly boring around here. I've found all sorts of interesting books. They are quite enjoyable.

[He grins and pauses. His left eye just barely twitches before he continues.] And it got me thinking. What are some of your favorite books? Which ones do you like the best? And which ones do you just hate? I'd like to know so I have a base of comparison. After all, one can't make judgements without a base of comparison, yes? Deary me, there are just so many books here. I'm surprised more people aren't here reading too. It's almost sad. Poor ignored books.

[Karl's eyes shift to the pile of books around him. His smile slowly turns more flat. He seems to get lost in staring at them before he looks to the camera again and his smile picks right back up.]

So then! Books! Which do you love? Which do you despise? Tah tah!

[Karl reaches out and turn off the communicator.]

Sample RP:
Everything had a weakness. Everything and everyone. Nothing was flawless. Karl just had to figure out this person’s. The statue had been following this person for weeks. He wanted to know what this human did each day. They seemed to have a routine but not a lot of it was spent alone. They seemed to have connections to what was happening here or as far as Karl could tell he did. The statue wanted to discover what this person knew. They had been here before the arrival of all of the other stolen humans. Why none of them had thought to do this, the statue just chalked up to them all being stupid humans. They would rather do what humans did best. Make ‘friendships’ that would be convenient for them and wait for the perfect moment to betray and ruin the connections they made. All of them were the same.

This human struck Karl as odd. How could a human be here and yet seem to uncaring with the need to escape. Either he knew more than he let on or he was involved. Either way, Karl would enjoy pulling the knowledge out of him before he fed him to the alligators. They reminded him of the crocodiles back in the amusement park. Useful when they ate humans but otherwise useless. They got rid of bodies at least.

Nonetheless, it would soon be now or never. This human did take a small detour on their way to their next stop. Karl just needed to wait in the right spot. He moved into the alleyway and to the manhole. He moved it with easy and slipped into the sewers. Finally he reached up to grab the cover and pull it almost all the way over the hole again. He would wait here until the human walked over. He would move then. He’d grab the man’s ankle, snap it, and drag him into the dark for a nice little chat. He would get the information he wanted out of this stupid human and then move on to find more. It was time to get what he wanted. Whether this human wanted to give it to him or not.

Speaking of, Karl could hear footsteps in the alleyway. Karl’s smile grew into a grin. He heard the footsteps walk up to the manhole and stop. There was a moment where nothing happened. Did he see the cover off? What was he thinking about? Karl’s eye twitched as he waited for another noise. When one didn’t come soon enough, in this case a few seconds, Karl made his move. His hand came out, grabbed the ankle of the human, twisted it hard to the left, and dragged the screaming human down into the darkness. He dropped it down into the dark, where he heard it land with a loud crunch.

The statue dropped down and looked down at the terrified human. Only it wasn’t the right one. This one had different hair and was a woman. Karl growled for a second before he chuckled and shook his head.

“Deary me. Looks like I made a mistake again. Oh well. This can be cleaned up.” Karl reached down and wrapped his stone fingers around her neck. He squeezed hard and jerked his arms to the sides. Another loud crack and she was silent. He pushed her into the water and climbed back up the ladder. Hopefully his target hadn’t gotten away. He peeked out of the manhole and looked around. He caught the sight of the human target’s back as it turned the corner.

“Curses. Guess I’ll have to go with plan B.” Karl climbed out of the manhole with a giggle and walked after the human. He would go to where the human slept and simply wait. He would get the information he wanted. It was only a matter of time.

Companion’s Personality: Arma is a silent concrete raven. Though when Karl speaks to her, it seems to hint that she cares for him and also enjoys killing humans as much as he does. She acts of her own accord to help Karl, as to why is unknown.

Companion’s Abilities/Additional Notes: Arma can shift and change form into a variety of different melee weapons in exchange for energy from Karl. She must always remain the same volume however. She can also help to temporarily repair Karl by fusing with him if the need arises.

Companion’s Sample Journal Post:
N/A since she can't speak or make posts herself.
